The backyard

"It's a nice evening," she said as she sipped her adult beverage perched on her seat on the patio. "And the yard looks so good."

It better look good. We both had slaved hauling new red lava rock into the space. Now the once bark-strewn beds looked neater and cleaner--and red.

"This was all worth it," she whispered to me as I stood close to her. Her fresh-from-the-bath body scent intermingled with the crisp smell of the lawn. Well, let's be real, she flat out overpowered it for me--I may love a St Augustine lawn, but it can't compete with this pretty blond Texan with great taste in bath soaps.

The neatly trimmed bushes framed the stucco-walled townhome and gave a great contrast--dark green against sandy stucco. The textures were inviting but paled by comparison to the hard working, freshly-cleansed Euless girl. The failing light warmed the newly laid rock around the raised bed and contrasted nicely with the cedar-slat perimeter fence.

"Do you think a hot tub would fit here?" she purred, sweeping her lithe arm toward the natural space just off the slat to the open part of the flower bed. "Yes, it would work nicely there. Hot water could come from the bath there," as I pointed to the outside wall of the bath where the garden tub was just inside. Piping would be easy since a two-zone sprinkler system already populated the lawn and bed areas. After the muscle-straining work of the day, it would be nice to have a burbling hot tub to soak in with my pretty partner, I thought.

"Yes, it would," she sighed, as if reading my mind. "Shall we open that new bottle of wine we picked up last night from Su Vino?"

"Of course, " I said, as she now stood, barefoot on the smooth slab under the cover of the open patio, which could easily be screen in. "Why don't we continue this inside, as my arm encircled her trim waist and she kissed me ever so slightly.
